An exciting and rewarding opportunity is available for a suitably qualified candidate to join the Health Information team at Portland District Health.
You are responsible for providing accurate and timely coding of admitted patient episodes at Portland District Health using ICD‑10‑AM/ACHI/ACS standards and Victorian Admitted Episodes Dataset (VAED) requirements to support high‑quality patient information, effective clinical communication, and reliable organisational reporting. The role contributes to case‑mix performance, revenue optimisation, statutory reporting and data quality improvement. You will work collaboratively within the Health Information Services team and liaise with clinical staff, managers and external stakeholders to clarify documentation, uphold data integrity, and contribute to continuous improvement in clinical documentation quality. Confidentiality, privacy and precision in coding are essential to all aspects of the position.
About you:
- Bachelor/master’s degree in health information management or recognised Clinical Coding qualification from HIMAA.
- Completion of a recognised Clinical Coding qualification or Health Information Management degree.
- Demonstrated competency in inpatient coding using ICD‑10‑AM/ACHI/ACS.
- Proficiency in 3M Codefinder or similar clinical coding software.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, clinical documentation and case‑mix principles.
- Eligibility for remote work (for existing SWARH coders) where applicable.
- More than 2 years of experience working as a coder under a hospital coding team tertiary hospital casemix - desirable
- Eligibility for full registration with the Health Information Management Association of Australia - desirable
