GENERAL SURGEON

An exciting and rewarding opportunity is available for a permanent part-time General Surgeon.

The primary role is to facilitate and direct the provision of high quality and comprehensive surgical and related services at Portland District Health in an efficient and effective manner.  As a member of Medical Services, the appointee will contribute to the overall performance of the team consistent with Portland District Health’s Mission, Vision and Objectives.

About you:

  • Substantial clinical and managerial experience at a senior clinical level in the health sector
  • Experience in teaching at undergraduate and graduate level
  • Experience in self-management and organisation of work to achieve agreed outcomes
  • Comprehensive knowledge regarding delivery of surgical services and operating theatre requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of and proficiency in structuring service delivery, including rostering and theatre staff allocations, in conjunction with the DMS
  • Understanding of customer service for internal and external customers and a commitment to meeting their needs in a helpful and courteous manner
  • Awareness of medico-legal issues, clinical risk management, clinical governance and relevant legislation
  • High level verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly developed organisational skills
  • Certificates, licences and registrations

About us:

Portland District Health (PDH) provides an integrated health service for the community. The hospital was established in 1856 on the current site and now provides a comprehensive range of services that include:

  • Hospital based Medical and Surgical services, Medical Imaging (Radiology), Pharmacy and Pathology
  • A 24/7 Urgent Care Centre for emergency treatment
  • Residential aged care for 30 residents at Harbourside Lodge
  • An extensive range of primary and community services for the local community

PDH delivers services from a single campus, employs around 470 staff with an FTE of approximately 290, and has an active volunteer workforce. The People and Culture Unit sits within the Corporate Services Directorate, with other Units including Finance, Building Services, Food Services, Environmental Services, Executive Support, Administration and Health Information.
